As May begins, we're entering a season with growing opportunities to host events outdoors — and with that comes more chances to apply sustainability not only to event planning but also to decorations. Below, we offer four suggestions for making your decorations more sustainable:
Air Is Free
Utilise air for your decorations, whether that means balloons (made from special, recyclable materials) or other sustainable elements. Also consider repurposing everyday objects to create new decorations that you can suspend above attendees to generate a genuine wow effect.
Choosing Fabric
Remember that any decorations you use will eventually end up as waste unless there is an opportunity for reuse — in which case, take advantage of it. Choose sustainable, durable materials that are mindful of the environment, regardless of their eventual fate.
Durable Design
The primary purpose of any decoration is, of course, to beautify a space. To be truly sustainable, a decoration should be reusable, which is why it’s essential to create a timeless design that is also durable, allowing you to deploy decorations repeatedly in different concepts.
Dual Use
Imagine a client commissions a custom, branded decoration for their event that you can no longer reuse. What can you do to make that solution sustainable? Show them various ways the piece can be repurposed later: offer options to integrate the decoration into their office environment or use it as branding in a meeting room. This way, their visitors will repeatedly experience the same wow effect when encountering the installation.
